Psychotherapy for Individuals and Couples

Alison E. Schwing, Ph.D., HSPP, LLCWelcome to my practice website where I hope you can find the information you need to make a decision about whether I would be a good fit for you as a therapist.

My approach to therapy focuses on the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I incorporate elements of psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies and work collaboratively with clients toward change. While some people are natural growth seekers and don't shy away from the challenges that accompany change, I also know that going to therapy can be uncomfortable for pretty much anyone. That is eased in a trusting therapeutic relationship. It is that kind of relationship in which we can dare to see ourselves, our lives, and the changes we want or need to make more clearly.

I have been doing psychotherapy with diverse clients and issues for over ten years. I have worked in community mental health, university counseling, and private practice and I teach graduate courses in counseling. My education and training as a counseling psychologist as well as my experience have all shaped me into a therapist who works effectively with many presenting problems some of which are anxiety, depression, insomnia, grief and loss, life transitions, sexual identities, academic/career issues, self-esteem, relationship problems, and mild to moderate disordered eating.

I know that psychotherapy fosters meaningful growth. I hope that will be your experience.
